ABOUT THE SHOW
“The first thing you should know is that this is true. It’s what actually happened. I know it seems like it’s a story – inside of a story – inside of a story. But that’s how it is for most people. At least the ones in here.”
Nick’s got a story to tell you. About how a routine traffic stop turned into a conviction for murder. About how he spent the next 22 years on death row. About how he finally petitioned the court to ask not for an appeal—but for his execution date. And about what happened next…
After an acclaimed run in London, two-time Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody makes his Broadway debut alongside Golden Globe and Emmy® Award nominee Tessa Thompson in an “unmissable portrait of death row injustice” (The Telegraph). Nominated for Best New Play at the Olivier Awards, with Brody also earning a nomination for Best Actor, THE FEAR OF 13 is based on the extraordinary true story of Nick Yarris. Written by Lindsey Ferrentino (Ugly Lies the Bone) and directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer (Good Night, and Good Luck), this gripping exploration of truth, justice, and the chasm between them will leave you hanging on every word.
It was recently announced that criminal justice reform advocate Kim Kardashian has joined the producing team of the Broadway production of The Fear of 13. This endeavor, a first for Ms. Kardashian, is part of a her broader effort to bring worldwide attention to the wrongfully convicted, a subject she has been passionately committed to and painstakingly working on for many years. Ms. Kardashian stated, “My commitment to criminal justice reform has always been about more than just policy – it’s about people. I’ve learned that sometimes the most effective way to change minds is through a powerful story. The Fear of 13 is that story. It’s a raw, honest look at Nick Yarris’s wrongful conviction and the systemic failures that kept him behind bars for twenty years. I couldn’t be prouder to make my Broadway producing debut with a project that carries such vital weight.”
